Carrying capacity

Carrying capacity is the maximum population size of a species the environment can sustain. In ecology, the concept is used for the maximum population of a given species that a given ecosystem can sustain, given the amount of food, water, habitat etc available. It can also refer to what human poulation the earth can sustain, given the resource consumption, energy use and waste generation of that population.
