Value chain
The concept “value chain” or “product value chain” refers to the entire chain of activities of a product life cycle from resource extraction, refinement, production, use and end of life.
A supply chain is hence a subset of a value chain.
(In 1985 Porter defined the concept “value chain” as the chain of internal activities that contribute to increased value of a product: inbound logistics, operations, outbound logistics, marketing and sales, and service. However, this definition is not applied in the texts on the TOSCA website.)
