AkzoNobel: LOTE – leadership on the edge
In 2008, AkzoNobel launched a program for putting focus on sustainability issues within the company and outside. By sending young potential leaders to Antartica within the leadership program AkzoNobel brings a lot of attention to the sustainability work.
In the leadership program, 12 young employees participate at the time. The unique part of the leadership program is the participation in an expedition with Robert Swan, a polar explorer with the mission to inspire people in sustainability issues. Each participant runs a dedicated sustainability project, somehow connected to his/her daily work, during the year of the leadership program. This brings the work of sustainable development directly into the daily business.
The expedition is well documented and the information is spread internally and externally to promote the work on sustainable development.
